MWD offers rebates on water-conserving devices
From wire service reportsPosted: 06/01/2010 07:20:49 AM PDTBeginning today, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will offer consumers rebates on purchases of water- conserving devices ranging from clothes washers to sprinkler nozzles.“The dry, hot months of summer mean higher water use,” said MWD General Manager Jeffrey Kightlinger. “Before the hot weather begins, we encourage everyone to consider purchasing and installing water-saving devices inside and outside.”The amount of the rebates varies depending on the cost of the item, ranging from $3 for a rotating sprinkler nozzle to $1,750 for a pH cooling tower controller. Rebates will be available on 13 devices, according to MWD.People who purchase qualifying high-efficiency clothes washers may be eligible to receive the SoCal WaterSmart rebate of $135 or greater, as well as a $100 rebate through California’s Cash For Appliances program, according to the water agency.Information about the rebates and applications are available online at www.bewaterwise.com.MWD officials noted that funding is limited, and submitting an application is not a guarantee that customers will receive a rebate. The program will run through April 30, 2011.
