Reggie The Alligator has a New Companion at the LA Zoo!

Famous for living in Harbor City’s Machado Lake several years ago, Reggie the Alligator will now have a female companion at the Los Angeles Zoo. Reggie is moving into a new gator pond with Cajun Kate. He was originally on exhibit in a temporary pen at the zoo in Griffith Park, which he tried to escape from in August 2007.

Cajun Kate had previously lived with Methuselah until he passed away in March. He was the zoo’s oldest occupant at 70 years plus. Zoo officials then decided to pair her with Reggie, who had never before had a roommate.

Reggie was found in Machado Lake in August 2005. On May 24, 2007, Reggie was spotted sunning himself and captured, with a dog catcher’s pole. The person that put him in Machado Lake, Anthony Brewer of San Pedro, pleaded no contest in 2006 to illegally possessing an alligator. He served three years of probation and paid $100,000 in compensation(Restitution) to the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.
