Yesterday CRA/LA held their monthly meeting in the Senior Citizen Center at Banning Park. This was a crucial meeting for residents to attend because of a survey that was designed to get public feedback on the physical design of a community, and to develop the right zoning regulations and design controls for the future Wilmington.
There were a total of about 10 community residents, not including the board members, who attended the meeting in a place that accommodates at least a hundred people. I must admit, I haven’t noticed much promotion or awareness of these meetings by CRA/LA, but it is in part our duty as community members to inform ourselves if no one else will.
Being part of the meeting and having the opportunity to take a survey having to do with what I want MY community to look like was empowering, and we should all be able to feel this way about our hometown. After a long day at work, I wasn’t very motivated to go, but when I arrived I knew the importance of my attendance, and I am so grateful I attended along with some colleagues.
Topics discussed were: plan amendment status update, discussion on the visual preference survey & community visioning, & upcoming agenda-environmental scoping meeting.
