
Most of us in Wilmington are familiar with the Banning Residence Museum and the Drum Barracks, yet we may not be familiar with other local museums that we can visit on a budget. With this in mind, I have compiled a list of local museums that are close to Wilmington and free. So now that summer is almost upon us, take some time to enjoy an outing without breaking the bank.
San Pedro:
Los Angeles Maritime Museum– located on 6th St. in the 1941 Municipal Ferry Building. This museum has a suggested donation of $3 for adults $1 for youth and seniors and children are free. In celebration of their 30th anniversary it is completely admission free on Saturdays.

Point Fermin Light House– located on Paseo del Mar. It is always free but welcomes donations.
The Fort MacArthur Museum– located in Angel’s Gate Park off Gaffey. Always free, check it out and then spend some time at the Korean Bell afterwards.

The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium– (previously mentioned on The Wilmington Wire) located on Stephen White drive at Cabrillo Beach. It has a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $1 for children and seniors.
Long Beach:
Museum of Latin American Art– (previously mentioned on The Wilmington Wire) located on Los Alamitos. Personally one of my favorite museums, and it’s free on Sundays.

Palos Verdes:
South Coast Botanical Garden– (pictured above bottom) Located on Crenshaw blvd. Another personal favorite, its free on the third Tuesday of every month.
