Carlos Aguirre Jr., Wilmington resident faces more than 100 years plus multiple life terms when he returns to court August 24th after being guilty on 12 felony counts filed for the repeated rapes of his niece and two of her friends, reported the Long Beach Press-Telegram yesterday.

He was also caught, and is being charged for, possessing and selling ecstasy and marijuana. The cops discovered that he drugged his victims before sexually assaulting them. The police also found child pornography – some 120 images – on his computer, which included an 18-minute video, set to music, of one victim being raped by Aguirre and a 12-year-old boy.

I knew this guy from school and I never imagined that he was capable of rape. It really comes to show the importance of honest and open communication among community members. I have much respect for the incredibly brave women that came forward to speak up against their attacker. The police say there were more victims that did not come forward. Regardless, I’m just happy that the victims are getting justice, and I hope they all receive treatment for their trauma.

This is truly a horrendous story for many reasons. One, is that he had already raped someone at the age of 14. Statistically most rapists are repeat offenders. I believe that this makes a strong case for alerting those around you. We cannot assume that a rapist will not rape again.
